… 17 for 24, not my greatest night of Oscar predicting. I missed all 3 short form films, but was happy to see that 2 out of 3 were the films I wanted to win. Should have trusted my instinct on those. I was, however, disappointed by the Screenplay victories, particularly Adapted. Up in the Air was way too good of a film not to win a single award, and its screenplay was incredibly smart and funny, which seeing as (500) Days of Summer didn’t even get nominated for a screenplay award this year means that smart and funny didn’t play well with the AMPAS this year. Instead emotional played. So be it.
Also, I missed hearing the performances of the Original Songs. It’s a shame they completely cut that out and still ran half an hour over. Can we all agree to getting rid of the “each Best Actor/Actress nominee gets their own speech about him/her” thing next year? It just doesn’t work and is entirely too long.
Ok that is all. And not a moment too soon either.
